Africa’s Richest Woman, Folorunsho Alakija, has revealed that she did not go to a University but that did not stop her from making it in life and achieving her goals.63-year-old Folorunsho Alakija made this revelation, yesterday, August 27 while giving a motivational speech to the students of the University of Lagos during the 2014 UN International Youths Day in Lagos.

The Nigerian military are reportedly fighting for Gwoza, Borno State, the captured territory which Boko Haram declared an Islamic Caliphate last Sunday.The ongoing operation is aimed at immediately reclaiming Gwoza and 14 surrounding villages from the insurgents. Australian negotiator Dr Stephen Davis continues making shocking claims now alleging that Boko Haram pass a large amount of their finances through the Central Bank Of Nigeria (CBN).This comes days after the expert, who had spent 4 months in Nigeria’s North-East negotiating for the release of Chibok girls abducted by insurgents on April 14, said some politicians from the opposition sponsored Boko Haram.

In an exclusive phone interview with the Nigerian TheCable, Davis insisted that Boko Haram commanders told him that a top CBN official (name not provided by TheCable for legal reasons) was involved in funding the insurgency in the country.When asked by the journalist about where Boko Haram get the financial support from, the 63-year-old experienced negotiator said the source could not be traced because “it is done through a legal channel, through the gatekeeper, the CBN, and that makes it very easy to cover up”.
According to Davis, one of the biggest suppliers of arms and military uniforms to Boko Haram lives in Egypt and receives money sent by political sponsors from Nigeria. However the legal transaction of the funds is carried out with the help of the CBN, Davis added.

A 32-year-old woman and her father have been charged with bigamy by the police after she successfully got married to two different men legally in Ghana.

According to a report by The Finder newspaper Patience Belinda Gyamfi (the woman at the centre of investigations) got married to Maximus Anumah, a member of staff at the 37 Military Hospital in 2012 and to Audrey Atikpo in January 2013 while she was still married to the former.

The newspaper reported that Belinda’s marriage to Maximus was held at a church in Labadi and registered at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) while and the second marriage was registered in Somanya in the Eastern Region.

Unknown gunmen at about 5.20 this morning August 28th attacked an Army camp manned by six armed soldiers at Wunti -Dada, a suburb of Bauchi state, killing the commander of the camp and a soldier.

The Federal Government, Thursday, confirmed that the doctor that died in a hospital in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, died of the Ebola Virus Disease, EVD. The Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu, told journalists in Abuja on Thursday that the doctor contacted the disease after treating a patient who came in contact with Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian-American who brought Ebola to Nigeria. According to the minister, the patient after experiencing some symptoms, went for treatment. He said:

Doctors claimed the man had suffered “respiratory and multiple organ failure” and declared him dead a few hours after his family took him to the hospital on Saturday August 23rd. His family then took what they believed was his corpse to the morgue inside the Menandro de Farias General Hospital in Salvador, northeast Brazil.

The next morning Val’s brother Walterio was allowed into the morgue to dress his body ready for his funeral later in the day, only to get the shock of his life.

RIOT IN BRAZILIAN PRISON CAUSES OFFICIALS TO SEAT UP.

Brazilian authorities say they have begun transferring inmates from a prison in the southern city of Cascavel after riots inside turned deadly -- with two inmates decapitated and two thrown off the roof of a cell block.Prisoners, demanding better living conditions and more flexible visiting hours, overpowered guards Saturday at the State Penitentiary in Cascavel. They burned mattresses and damaged cells.
On Monday, rioters held numerous inmates and two guards hostage as negotiations for their demands continued.The rioters say they will release the guards only after 600 inmates are transferred elsewhere. Authorities dispatched vans to take them.
The prison housed just over 1,000 inmates, according to local media reports.
Prison riots are not uncommon in Brazil, often sparked by overcrowding, poor conditions and rivalry between criminal gangs.

Video footage from a baby monitor in San Francisco shows the frightening moments as the earth shook during Sunday's 6.0 earthquake near Napa.

The quake -- centered about nine miles south of the city of Napa -- struck around 3:20 a.m., knocking power out for roughly 70,000 customers in Napa County and sending more than 120 people to a hospital. Farther south, in San Francisco, the effect was far less severe, but apparently strong enough to rattle a baby room.

China has executed eight people for alleged “terrorist” attacks across the country, including three who “masterminded” a car crash in the capital Beijing’s Tiananmen Square last year, state media has said.
The official Xinhua news agency said on Sunday that the eight were involved in several cases in Beijing and in the restive far northwestern region of Xinjiang.Three of the executed group “masterminded” the October 2013 attack in the heart of the Chinese capital, the report said. They were identified by Xinhua as Huseyin Guxur, Yusup Wherniyas and Yusup Ehmet.

A 6.0-magnitude earthquake has rocked the northern San Francisco area, injuring dozens of people, damaging historic buildings, setting some homes on fire and causing power outages around the picturesque town of Napa.The biggest quake in the region in 25 years jolted many residents out of bed when it hit at 3:20am local time on Sunday, centred 10km south of Napa, California.Three people were seriously injured, including a child who had multiple fractures after a fireplace fell on him, local fire service chief John Callahan told the Reuters news agency.

A young American who has been held hostage for two years by an Islamic rebel group in Syria has been released to UN peacekeepers in the Golan Heights.
“Finally he is returning home,” US Secretary of State John Kerry said in a statement, confirming the release of Theo Curtis, an American researcher whose disappearance in Syria had not been previously reported.
Curtis was handed over to UN peacekeepers in the village of Al Rafid, Quneitra in the Golan Heights and after undergoing a medical checkup was turned over to US representatives, the United Nations said.
The news of his release came less than a week after a video surfaced showing the slaying of captive US journalist James Foley at the hands of an Islamic State militant.

Mr Jeshua Maude One of the residents of Wumban village, who spoke to newsmen , said that some unidentified gunmen who were over 60 in number attacked the two villages, about 3:25am on Friday and Sunday mornings and engaged in shooting and burning of houses. He noted that over 20 people were killed by the invaders.

Over the weekend, multiple news publications reported that the commander-in-chief President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is seriously ill and has been flown to Germany for medical attention.On Sunday, the Special Adviser to GEJ on Media and Publicity Reuben Abati revealed in a telephone conversation with A Punch correspondent that the reports are false and that he has been on a “private visit”.

He said;

Michael Agbo Idibia, the father of Nigerian music superstar has passed on. He died at age 68 after his battle with prostate cancer.The family has sent out a release on his passing.

"With sadness in our hearts, but with gratitude to God for a life well spent, we announce the passing on of our father, brother, uncle and in-law, Michael Agbo Idibia, a native of Okpokwu Idumoga in Benue State".

Born on July 25, 1946, Mr. Idibia is an alumnus of Kansas State University, USA, and retired from the Ministry of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue State.‎Survived by wife, Mrs. Rose Owoyi Idibia, children: Steven Idibia, Innocent ’2face’ Idibia‎, Hyacinth Idibia and Oche Idibia, grand-children, and siblings.

The South East leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has risen from a crucial meeting in Umuahia, the Abia State Capital, rejecting entirely the alleged allocation of 8000 polling booths to the South East as against the 21,000 polling boots allocated to the North by the Independent National Electoral commission (INEC.)

Briefing newsmen at the end of the meeting at Government house, Umuahia, the Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh said the zone demands that the exercise be suspended forthwith as it is against the spirit of unity and one Nigeria and a disservice to the zone.

He said the party leadership is worried about the recent announcement of postings and promotions of officers in the police and requested the Inspector General of Police, as well as the Police Service Commission to revisit the exercise with a view to balancing it in favour of the South-East.
The PDP leadership also requested that the registration of voters exercise be extended in areas having problems, noting that officers and materials for the exercise were inadequate.

A 23-year-old Celestial Church prophet, Adewale Adeleke, has been arrested for r*ping a church member during prayer a prayer session. He committed the act on July 26 at 6 pm at the premises of Original Inn Hotel, Ebute Meta.

The prophet allegedly approached his victim claiming to be spiritually informed about her problems and had solutions to them through a scheduled prayer session.
When the victim met him at the hotel on the scheduled appointment, he obtained her mobile phone and N13,000 as mobilization fees.

NMA CALLS OFF STRIKE,DOCTORS RESUME WORK ON MONDAY.

The Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, has suspended its over two-month old strike.Its President, Kayode Obembe, who disclosed the development to newsmen, said the association’s delegates resolved to suspend the industrial action in the interest of the ongoing public health issues in the country.

Mr. Obembe said the delegates also resolved among others that the Federal Government recall all suspended resident doctors without punitive measures.He therefore directed all Nigerian doctors to report to work on Monday.
The Doctors had been sharply divided over whether or not to suspend the strike in the face of outbreak of the Ebola virus in Nigeria.

FAKE CEMENT FACTORY DISCOVERED IN ABIA STATE,OWNER ARRESTED-NSCDC.

Seven men specialized in cement adulteration have been arrested by the Abia State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. They were arrested at Asa Umunka village in Ugwunagbo Local Government Area of the state according to the NSCDC official who paraded them on Friday. Narrating how they were arrested, NSCDC Commandant, Mr. Andy Dateer, said his men spotted a compound that looked like a cement factory and decided to verify the type of business activity that was going on there, according to report from The Punch.

According to LEADERSHIP, President Goodluck Jonathan travel to Germany was not for a private visit but was for emergency health issues and he left to Germany to seek medical care.
As of the time of press release, every effort to get a statement from his spokesman, Dr Reuben Abati where not answered.

Also the senior special assistant to the president on public affairs, Dr Doyin Okupe did not answer his phone calls or his emails.The Presidency had left for Germany after the closing ceremony of the National Conference.

Heavily armed insurgents belonging to the Nigerian Islamist sect, Boko Haram, in the early hours of today invaded the secretariat of the Madagali local government area in Adamawa State. The insurgents dislodged Nigerian soldiers who were guarding the facility and surrounding areas.
A security source told SaharaReporters that hundreds of the militants arrived at the local government headquarters led by armored vehicles they had earlier seized from Nigerian troops in Gwoza, Borno State. The source added that the Islamist fighters were also armed with shoulder-fired rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) and anti-aircraft mortar guns mounted on pickup vans. They reportedly had it easy overwhelming Nigerian soldiers in the area who retreated quickly in the face of the militants’ heavy gunfire.

ATLANTA (AP) — A doctor at the hospital that treated two American aid workers who were infected with the deadly Ebola virus in Africa says their discharge poses no public health risk.

Officials announced the release of Dr. Kent Brantly and Nancy Writebol on Thursday. Brantly left Emory University Hospital on Thursday. Writebol left Tuesday. Family and officials say they're free of the virus. Writebol's husband says she left privately in a weakened condition to recuperate at an undisclosed location.

The man who turned the ice bucket challenge into an internet viral sensation has drowned in a swimming accident.

Corey Griffin, 27, had attended a fundraiser in Nantucket, Massachusetts, when the accident happened early on Saturday morning. Griffin had helped raise $100,000 at a charity function on Nantucket Island on Friday night, and reports say that at 2am he dived off a wharf into water and got into trouble.

According to a police report, Griffin ‘floated to the surface… then went under water again not resurfacing’. He was pulled from the water and CPR was administered on the scene before he was taken to a local hospital. He was pronounced dead at 3am.

Unknown gunmen at about 5.20 this morning August 28th attacked an Army camp manned by six armed soldiers at Wunti -Dada, a suburb of Bauchi state, killing the commander of the camp and a soldier.

According to reports by The Nation, the unknown gunmen arrived the camp in two motorcycles immediately after the early morning Muslim prayers and opened fire, killing the commander and the soldier.
