AMERICAN IDOL FINALIST MICHEAL JOHN DEAD AT AGE 35.

Michael Johns, the Australian blue-eyed soul crooner of American Idol Season 7, has died at age 35. Johns is the first Idol top 10 finalist to pass away in the show's 13-season history.
While the singer's family has not yet issued an official cause-of-death statement, sources have told The Hollywood Reporter it was a blood clot in his ankle. A close friend of the Idol, Torrey Gimbill, told E! News that Johns was complaining about pains in his legs the day before his death. "My mom took him into the emergency room [Thursday]," said Gimbill. "He had complained about his leg hurting him; he thought it might be a blood clot because it had bruised pretty badly and he never hurt his leg."
According to TMZ, doctors sent Johns home on Thursday, finding nothing wrong; the next day he was discovered in an unresponsive state on his friend's couch, and he was dead by the time paramedics arrived at the scene.

Some hours ago, many news site claimed that the US is planning to screen a delegation from Nigeria including President Goodluck Jonathan for the Ebola Virus as they arrive for the African/American Leaders Summit today.

Well, the claims which has since been generating a lot of reactions from Nigerians we have gathered is untrue. The summit which is billed to take place in Washington DC is expected to have many world leaders in attendance and according to Reuters, President Obama said it was necessary to test African participants for the Ebola virus so as to be sure of not aiding the spread of the deadly virus.

JONATHAN AND HIS AIDES UNDERGO EBOLA VIRUS SCREENING AS THEY ARRIVE IN USA.

US President Barack Obama has revealed that some African participants attending the African/American Leaders Summit billed for Monday in Washington DC will undergo screening for the dreaded Ebola virus (EVD).Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan is expected to be there along his aides and other African leaders.

Obama explained the reason for such, was the prevention and protection of the United States from an outbreak of the killer disease that has been ravaging West Africa.He said: “Folks who are from these countries that have even a marginal risk, or an infinitesimal risk of having been exposed in some fashion, we’re making sure we’re doing screening.”

Presidents of Liberia and Sierra Leone, Mrs Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf and Ernest BaiKoroma, respectively, have however stated that they won’t attend the meeting due to their country being in shutdown mode after the outbreak.Also foreign professional health bodies and medical experts have described Nigeria’s response to the outbreak of Ebola in its borders as very poor and have condemned the poor preventive measures put in place by the Federal Government.

WOMAN PRODUCES DEATH CERTIFICATE JUST TO EVADE REPAYMENT OF LOAN.

A 38-year-old woman got her death certificate issued from Udaipur Municipal Corporation through her friends to evade repayment of nearly Rs 4 lakh loan taken from a finance company. The matter came to light when her husband approached a councillor of Udaipur Municipal Corporation (UMC) stating that she was alive. The councillor was stunned as he had himself given a nod to issue the certificate by attesting the death certificate form. The police have registered a case of cheating against the said woman and two of her accomplices who conspired to get the death certificate issued. According to the police, the complainant, Rajesh Singhvi, a councillor at Udaipur Municipal Corporation said that two women came to his doorstep on June 26. 

"The two, Shabana (30) and Mumtaaz (32), told Singhvi that their relative Mumtaaz (38) wife of Zaheer Mohammed, had died of snake bite on June 15. The complainant admitted that since both the women were known to him he did not cross-check the facts and attested the form to be submitted to the municipal corporation to get the certificate issued," said Fateh Singh, IO, Surajpole police station in Udaipur on Sunday.

As the deadly Ebola epidemic continues to wreck havoc on West African countries, the Lagos state government on Sunday stepped up its surveillance to ensure infected nationals of affected countries sneak into Nigeria.

Officials of Lagos State Ministry of Health and the Federal Government  visited the General Overseer of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), Prophet Temitope Joshua seeking his cooperation in ensuring Ebola victims are not brought to his church for healing.

2 NIGERIANS AND 3 OTHERS NABBED FOR DRUGS IN INDIA.

Task force cops nabbed two Nigerians and a degree student for possessing 90 grams of cocaine near Jagganath temple in Banjara Hills on Saturday.

Hyderabad police commissioner M Mahendar Reddy at a press conference on Saturday said that the Nigerians - Ezeh Christian Chuku and Nwoko Ndubuisi Keneth - were arrested along with Y Sai Praveen. Two others - Ethopian Duglas and degree student V Navya Sree (21), from New Bownpally -are absconding.

Police said Ezeh Christian Chuku alias Ezeh Peter came to India on a student visa last year and joined Aptech Institute in New Delhi. It was during his stay there that he met Duglas, a drug addict. After eight months, Peter moved to Hyderabad and started staying at Hakeempet Kunta along with his friend Ndubuisi. The two later decided to sell cocaine and contacted Duglas to arrange for the contraband.

SINGAPOREAN HIJACKED SHIP RELEASED NEAR NIGERIA.

A hijacked Singaporean oil tanker carrying 21 sailors was released on Sunday a week after being seized by pirates in waters off Ghana in west Africa, Seoul's foreign ministry said.The 3,200-tonnes tanker, carrying a South Korean captain and chief engineer, was hijacked on July 26 off the southern coast of Ghana, the ministry said.The vessel, which had loaded in the Pacific island nation of Kiribati, was also carrying 12 Chinese, one Singaporean and six Burmese, it said.

"All sailors are unhurt and it appears that some of their fuel has been stolen, the ship was released in waters off Nigeria.The hijacking appeared to have been aimed at stealing fuel.There has been a sharp increase in piracy activities in waters off West Africa, but in most cases, (they) abandon the ships after taking oil, money, or valuables,this case appears to be of a similar kind." said a senior Seoul official quoted by Yonhap.

NIGERIAN MILITARY RESUMES ENQUIRY INTO THE SHIITE ISLAMIC SECT MEMBERS KILLING.

Following the death of some members of the Shiite Islamic sect, the Defence Headquarters, DHQ, on Friday, August 1 said it had commenced inquiry into the clash between soldiers and the sect.The DHQ’s Director of Defence Information, Chris Olukolade made this known in a statement in Abuja.

Mr. Olukolade said the inquiry became necessary to calm the situation in Zaria after the recent encounter between soldiers who were on routine patrol and members of the sect.

It stated that while not downplaying the significance of such incident, it was also necessary to ensure that sufficient information was obtained beginning from the unit level and other reliable sources at the location.

He said that a preliminary investigation had been conducted to unravel the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident.

A constitutional court in Uganda annulled the country’s anti-gay legislation signed into the law by President Yoweri Museveni in February.The annulment took place today –  Friday 1st August 2014.

Homosexual acts in the country were already illegal, but the new law allowed life imprisonment for “aggravated homosexuality” and banned the “promotion of homosexuality”.

The United States cut aids to the country over the legislation.According to AFP, the ruling was made before a courtroom packed with Ugandans opposing or supporting the measure. Activists erupted in loud cheers after the court ruled the law is now “null and void.”
