The House of Representatives Peoples Democratic Party caucus yesterday gave President Goodluck Jonathan a vote-of-confidence for his job so far, and also endorsed Jonathan for a second term in office.
This was revealed to State House correspondents by House Leader, Mrs. Mulikat Adeola-Akande after they met with Jonathan and other state leader who are under the PDP’s umbrella.
Adeola-Akande said: “We are PDP caucus of the House of Representatives. A meeting like this is not strange because we met with the President who is our party leader. We deliberated on issues affecting our party.
“The House caucus on our own decided to pass a vote-of-confidence in Mr. President and also endorse him for second term.”
When questioned about the president’s reaction after such an endorsement she said: “We did the endorsement and we are urging him to run for second term.”
On the issue of Speaker, Tambuwal’s absense, she said: “I am sure when you see Mr. Speaker, you will ask him, this is a PDP meeting, obviously he will have his reasons why he was not at the meeting,”.
She said that the meeting had also covered the insecurity issues ripping the country apart, and the efforts to restore peace was being negotiated.
The meeting began late at around 9:50 pm at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, with National Assembly members arriving by coaster buses.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, was however absent at the meeting attended by his Deputy, Emeka Ihedioha.
