(CNN) From a globally lauded athlete to convicted killer, Oscar Pistorius' fall from grace culminated Tuesday with a five-year sentence in the shooting death of his girlfriend.The sentence was imposed for the charge of culpable homicide, which in South Africa means a person was killed unintentionally, but unlawfully.
Under South African law, he will have to serve at least one-sixth of his sentence -- 10 months -- before he can ask to be considered for parole.

TEACHER SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR RAPING 11 YEARS OLD STUDENT.

A 35 year-old teacher, Bright Asiruwa, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for defiling an 11-year-old primary school pupil in Benin, Edo State.According to P.M NEWS report, the convict who was a teacher to the victim before the incident, was said to have defiled the victim in 2007.The Prosecution Counsel, Nelson Okojie, told the Benin City High Court that Asiruwa defiled the pupil at Osazuwa Primary School, Ehor, the administrative headquarters of Uhunmwode local government area of the state.
It was gathered that Justice G. O. Imadegbelo, while sentencing the convict to life imprisonment, pronounced the teacher guilty ‎of rape.Commenting on the sentence, an elated elder brother of the victim, Engineer Zini Braima, stated that all the family wanted was justice.

52 BOKO HARAM MEMBERS ARRESTED IN BORNO STATE.

Between yesterday and today, Nigerian security operatives reportedly arrested 52 Boko Haram insurgents in Biu, Borno State.The terrorists are said to have gotten into Biu riding in a truck. OMG. Why would anyone rape a puppy?A 62-year-old Florida man,  James Guy Bull has been sentenced to five years in prison for fondling and raping his 8-month-old pit bull puppy named Coco, USA Today reports.
In March, two of Bull’s neighbours told authorities that they had seen him fondling Coco’s private parts on numerous occasions. “We understand from our assessment team that the total number of people who have perished is now 115, but those are not all South Africans. South Africans (are) about 84 that have died,” Jeff Radebe, the minister in charge of Pretoria’s response to the disaster, told reporters.

It was a tragic day  as three people have been confirmed dead after a church building collapsed in Benin City on Friday.The one-storey building, belonging to Christ Chosen Church Of God, collapsed at about 2pm in the Erhunse area of the city.About 9 people were said to be demolishing the building, following the relocation of the church to a new structure, when it caved in, trapping the workers inside.

National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) officials arrested a South African football coach for drug trafficking at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos. The 38-year-old coach named Steven Darlugar, was arrested during the passenger screening process while he was preparing to board an Arik Air flight to South Africa, Punch reports.Methamphetamine weighing 1.54 kilogrammes was found hidden in the compartment of one of his suitcases. Darlugar reportedly confessed to the crime, stating that he attempted drug trafficking due to financial difficulty.

President of South Africa, Jacob Zuma has revealed that 67 South Africans have been confirmed dead as a result of the Synagogue Church building collapse.
Zuma revealed this via a statement. Here are excerpts:

"I am greatly saddened to announce that 67 South Africans died and scores of others sustained injuries, after a building at the Synagogue Church of All Nations collapsed on Friday, 12 September 2014, in Lagos, in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.This is a particularly difficult time for South Africa. Not in the recent history of our country have we had this large number of our people die in one incident outside the country.Our thoughts are with the families, friends and colleagues that have lost their loved ones in this heart-breaking tragedy. The whole nation shares the pain of the mothers, fathers, daughters and sons who have lost their loved ones. We are all in grief".

THREE CHILDREN FOUND DEAD IN BENIN CITY.

A gory sight met residents of the Second East Circular Road in Benin City when they awoke today, September 17, 2014 to find the corpses of three young children dumped on the road.The Nation reports that two of the children, believed to be twins, were wrapped in clothes and kept inside a carton under a palm tree while a third, was dumped at the roadside.The three corpses were said to be in various stages of decomposition but the twins were reportedly farther gone than the little girl.
Officials of the state Ministry of Environment are said to have removed the bodies from the scene.

A man and his wife in Lagos have been arrested and taken to court after they were accused of rape.Ezechima Patrick and his wife, Uzoima were said to have conspired to commit the crime with the wife holding down the 16-year-old maid and ordering her to cooperate.The Prosecutor, ASP Godwin Anyanwu, reportedly told the court,“Patrick conspired with his wife to defile the 16-year-old girl. Uzoima had overpowered the girl for the husband to rape her.’’Anyanwu said further that Uzoima threatened to stab the victim if she put up any resistance.The duo were charged with conspiracy, child defilement and rape before a Magistrate court in Yaba but they denied the allegations.

Security Personnel at the scene of the bomb attack on a Federal College of Education in Kano, north-west Nigeria, have put the number of persons killed at 15 while over 30 others were injured.Two suicide bombers that carried out the attack on Wednesday were among the dead persons.An eyewitnesses said that the attackers entered the Arts and Social Sciences building, firing indiscriminately at fleeing students before the explosives went off.
